The whole of an industrial yard and 25 cars were charred following a huge blaze in Brimsdown.
More than 70 firefighters and ten fire engines battled with the blaze, in East Ducks Lees Lane, for almost four hours as 25 people were evacuated from the area.
The fire was visible across London, including as far as Canary Wharf, as the fire was eventually under control by 1.56pm.
London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “There was a lot of thick black smoke in the local area so we asked local residents to close their doors and windows. Around 25 people were evacuated and thankfully there were no injuries.
"A number of gas cylinders were involved in the fire. Fire crews cooled them down as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat."
