An up and coming amateur boxer will step up to the professional arena this weekend.

Cruiserweight Nick Parpa, 23, will take on Hungarian Gergely Biro at York Hall this Saturday in his first ever professional bout following an impressive amateur career.

Mr Parpa of Palmers Green is Greek Cypriot and has represented Cyprus at international level as well as being crowned North West Divisional Champion.

His opponent Biro has two professional fights to his name having won one and lost one but Parpa’s team feel he is more than ready take on the challenge.

Coach Costakis Evangelou said: “It’s going to be a challenge but we feel confident, Nick is a top drawer boxer and I am sure he is going to come out on top.

“Now is the time for Nick, he’s at a good age to step up to professional, even as an amateur he was showing pro abilities as a boxer.

“He’s feeling good and he’s confident in himself, he looks very sharp and I’ve been impressed with him. We have great expectations of him and we think he’s going to do well in the sport.”

In his preparation for going pro at Edmonton Eagles Boxing Club in Montague Road, Edmonton, Nick got the opportunity to spar with former world champion boxer Nathan Cleverly who was apparently impressed with the young man.

Parpa vs Biro is 14th on a 17 bout card at the event at York Hall in Old Ford Road, Bethnal Green, with doors opening at 5pm this Saturday.
