Teenage girls used ultrasound, a fake arm and an opthalmoscope to see inside their bodies and learn more about engineering in healthcare.
Year 9 girls at Enfield County School in Holly Walk, Enfield, were able to take blood from a fake arm and record an electro cardio graph of their own heart rhythms.
The teenagers also used ultrasound machines to see inside their own bodies and took pictures of their retinas with an iPhone attached to an opthalmoscope.
Enfield council and schools in the borough are working together as part of Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) Week.
A number of events will take place at schools providing opportunities for pupils interested in STEM subjects to learn more about careers in the fields.
Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield council’s cabinet member for education, children’s services & protection, said, “This is an ambitious activity programme for children and young people across the borough.
“Not only is it bringing excitement to learning; but it is also setting out some basic knowledge in ways that will interest our young people stimulating their curiosity and ambition to succeed.”
