Teenagers who produced a film about the perils of smoking inspired by a friend’s grandfather have won an award.
Denis Antor, Adam Marks, Ellis Podromou and Josh Crampton, who go to JCoss Jewish Community School, in Castlewood Road, New Southgate, entered the Barnet Cut Film Awards.
The 14-year-olds beat 475 other entries to win the competition, which was held at the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley.
Denis’s grandfather, Salahi Mehmed, who is 88, has “blackened lungs” due to smoking – and when he was 40, his lungs collaped and he fell into a coma.
Josh said: “Winning the award means so much to us all and every one of the boys. If just one adult or one child watches our video and s tops smoking then that;s true success.”
They have now qualified for the nationals which will be held on July 1.
