Pupils celebrated a plethora of different nations and cultures and on world diversity day.

More than 800 students at Raglan School, in Wellington Road, Bush Hill Park, took part in the day, in which they learned about the traditional dress or flag colours from 12 different nations.

The parade of World Cultural Diversity Day started with a celebration of colour on the school’s playing field.

Pupils wore the flag colours of Jamaica, Nigeria, China, Colombia, Turkey, Cyprus, Kenya, Russia, France, Greece, Great Britain and Italy.

Throughout the day the children also studied dancing, cooking and displaying arts and objects of interest related to world culture.

Headteacher Martin Kelsey said: “The children have been working hard to create a happy and entertaining day. Through this day they have learned about the world and the importance of the traditions and customs that everybody can enjoy.

“Days like this bring the school and community together. It is a time to celebrate and respect the diversity of our school community.”

Councillor Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for education, children’s services and protection, added: “This is an exciting day for the children and staff. It is going to be a memorable occasion showing how Enfield schools are expanding our children’s experiences and learning. All the staff and children are to be congratulated for presenting an unusual and thoughtful day.”
