A woman has been selected as an ‘inspiration’ by runner Paula Radcliffe after she battled back from meningitis and a cycle crash.

Devkee Trivedi, of Enfield, was knocked off her bicycle by a car in a hit-and-run incident last year and in December 2014, was hospitalised with viral meningitis which resulted in the loss of hearing in her right ear.

However, the passionate runner fought back and was named as one of six women to be mentored by Commonwealth champion Paula Radcliffe ahead of the Great Newham London Run, in July 19.

Radcliffe will be mentoring the six women for the run at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Ms Trivedi said: “From a young age I have always been a passionate runner and Paula Radcliffe has always been one of my idols. 2014 was not a good year for me health-wise and I really struggled to get back into running following it all.”

Ms Radcliffe added: “Running has given me so much pleasure and a lot of wonderful experiences and I want to share that with these six wonderful women and help them reach their own personal goals.

“I hope that the six women we’ve picked will go on to inspire thousands of other women across the UK to take that first step, sign up for the Morrisons Great Newham London Run and find out for themselves just how amazing running can be.

“You don’t need to be the fastest or the fittest, you just need to give it a go. I look forward to cheering on my six Radcliffe Runners, as well as the thousands of others taking part in the run on 19 July. And if today has inspired you, there are still places available so sign up now.”
