A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a great-grandmother in Edmonton last year.

Nicolas Salvador, 25, of Gilda Avenue, in Ponders End, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the brutal murder of Palmira Silva, 82, in Nightingale Road, Edmonton on September 4.

Mr Salvador also pleaded not guilty to actual bodily harm of Bernard Hamilton on the same day, for the same reason of insanity.

In a packed court room at the Old Bailey, Jonathon Rees QC of the prosecution agreed for a “short one to two day trial” on Monday, June 22.

Bernard Richmond QC, defending Mr Salvador, revealed that the 25-year-old had been receiving treatment at Broadmoor prison.
