More than 96 per cent of Enfield children have been offered one of their six preferred secondary school places.

First preferences for children in Enfield went up by four per cent to 92 per cent of pupils.

However, 141 children of 4,078 who applied for school places missed out on one of their six preferences.

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Borough Council's cabinet member for schools, said, “There is a place for every child transferring from primary to secondary schools in Enfield this year, and I am delighted that we have been able to satisfy most school preferences.

“All London councils, together with Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Surrey and Thurrock exchanged information about applications to each other’s schools and worked together to reduce the number of children receiving multiple offers.

“Enfield’s admissions team dealt with 4,076 applications that were received on time and 3,937 children have been offered one of their preferred schools.

“Where it was not possible to offer a place at one of the preferred schools, the council has still been able to make an offer of a school in the borough.”
