A teenager spoke about girls' body image at one of the biggest fashion festivals in the country.

Girl guide Niamh Griffin, 14, from Oakwood, attended the Clothes Show Live at the National Exhibition Centre, in Birmingham to launch the girls’ attitude survey.

She said: “Speaking at the Clothes Show Live event was really fun, I really enjoyed being part of such a prominent forum about such an important topic.

“I found the talk really engaging and it was interesting to speak with other panel members including Caryn Franklin and listen to what they had to say on the topic, particularly from the perspective of a young person.

"Body confidence is a really important topic to discuss. One in five girls aged between of primary school age say that they have been on a diet; girls are being targeted more and more by the media and by their peers to look and act, a certain way.

“Body confidence is a huge issue that is only getting worse - we need to show girls that we take their concerns seriously and take action.”

Niamh was one of more than 30 young women from Girlguiding who attended the event to spread a positive message about body image and to help other girls share their views.
