Members of a theatre could not hold back their excitement when they won a Children in Need Bargain Hunt special.

Susan Jamson, of Chickenshed Theatre, in Cockfosters, and her daughter Emma raised the most money for the children’s charity.

The community theatre company, which gives young people and disadvantaged groups the chance to take part in theatre, has been supported by Children in Need.

Ms Jamson said: “It was absolutely amazing. We were a little worried to begin with as we didn’t know very much about antiques, however, the Bargain Hunt team really helped us and very quickly we got into the swing of it.

“Then there was no stopping us then and we even lost the camera crew at one point because we got so excited looking at all the wonderful things on offer at the antiques fair in Oswestry, Shropshire.”

The pair admitted they did not get overly competitive against youth project group BAD Bikes.

Ms Jamson said: “At the auction Bad Bikes were cheering us on, and we cheered them on at their sale – however, it was so nice to win and be able to come back to the theatre riding high on our success.

“The nice thing was that many members of Chickenshed came to Malvern to cheer Emma and myself on – so winning was definitely a bonus.”

The theatre worker also stressed the importance of support from the children’s charity. She added: “Often these are people who find themselves being excluded from society and living at its margins.

“We bring children, young people and adults from every walk of life, all educational backgrounds and all abilities together to share a stage and create unforgettable, beautiful theatre.  Children in Need helps to make this possible.”
