A plan to revitalise a part of the borough has been given the go-ahead at a cabinet meeting.

Council chiefs agreed on the Central Leeside Area Action plan at the meeting last night.

The plan for the upper Lea valley includes specific projects such as Meridian Water, which will create up to 5,000 new homes and 3,000 new jobs as well as new schools, a health centre and other community facilities, as well as the upgrading of Deephams Sewage Works.

The plan will also include the introduction of the Lee Valley Heat Network which will provide new homes with low carbon heat through a decentralised energy network.

The plan will now go to full public consultation, before being submitted to the Secretary of State for final agreement.

Councillor Alan Sitkin, cabinet member for economic regeneration said: “This is huge for Enfield, an absolutely crucial growth area featuring a number of our main leading industrial areas. It is destined to play a key role in growing North London’s economy over the coming years.”

Associate cabinet member Cllr George Savva congratulated Cllr Sitkin and stressed the importance in helping to transform this part of Enfield.

He also stated the plan was helping to make “dreams become a reality” in the transformation of Leeside.
