Enfield has again been ranked in the top ten London boroughs for promoting healthy food.

The Good Food report, produced by healthy eating charity Sustain, ranked the borough seventh out of 32 London boroughs for a second successive year.

The report provides a league table in which boroughs are rated on their support for good food schemes such as community food growing, Fairtrade food and paying the London living wage.

Enfield's rating has risen from 4.5 out of a possible 10.5 last year to 6.5 this year.

The highest scoring borough was Islington with a total of 10.

Councillor Alan Sitkin, Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic development said: “Food really matters, not just for health but socially and economically.

“I am delighted to say that Enfield Council is playing its full part in improving diet, reducing healthcare costs and developing food initiatives across the borough.

“We are working with the NHS and schools to promote healthy eating messages and initiatives to tackle obesity in the population. We also run a number of projects helping local people grow their own food, even learn to cook and prepare it in a healthy way. The council also has partnerships with our local farms, like the Enfield Veg Co, to ensure it is easier than ever to be able to get fresh healthy food grown on your doorstep.

“We are very pleased to have done so well but we won’t rest on our laurels.”
