Volunteers have paid tribute to “devoted” and “private” former Councillor Pamela Adams.

Former councillor for Southgate Green and Turkey Street wards between 1990 and 2010, Ms Adams died on August 16, 2014.

The 85-year-old also worked with numerous volunteer groups including the Southgate Old Peoples’ Welfare, the Ruth Winston Care Centre and was President of Enfield Vision.

Dianne de Jersey, chairman of the vision group told the Enfield Independent that the group were shocked to hear the news.

She said: “It is terrible news and were all truly shocked to find out. She was so supportive to Enfield Vision and was very devoted to the cause.

“She helped with campaigns started by the Royal National Institute of the Blind and she was a great person to work with.”

Ms Adams attended Hollies private school for girls in Southgate and has lived in the borough all her life.

In 2007, she was made a Freeman of Enfield giving her freedom of the borough.

During her time as councillor, she was chairman of Social Services Scrutiny Panel and later as Deputy Cabinet Member for Social Services.

Chris Rash, a member of the Ruth Winston Care Home, in Palmers Green, paid homage to her work at the home.

He said: “She was tirelessly to help out at the home and was a brilliant person to have in our team.

“She was a very private woman but also a very kind and smiley lady who will be terribly missed as she did so much for many local group for the elderly and disabled.”

The centre will be welcoming people to the home, after her funeral on September 18.
