A new primary school opened its doors in one of the “most deprived areas of London”.

Meridian Angel Primary School, in Dysons Road, Edmonton, was created to help ease the pressure for school places in Enfield.

The temporary building in St John’s Church Hall was officially opened by the Bishop of Edmonton yesterday morning.

Father Nigel Asbridge, Chair of Governors said: “I’m so proud and excited to be opening Meridian Angel Primary School and would like to thank everyone who has helped us over the last two years to make this school into reality.

"Upper Edmonton is one of the most deprived areas in London, with a local community which faces many tough socio-economic challenges. Our vision to provide an outstanding school serving the local community will greatly enhance the life chances of local children and their families.”

Children will move into a new building in Ladysmith Road in 2015.

It was opened in partnership with the London Community Learning Trust which is a partnership between St John’s Church, the London Diocesan Board for Schools and the Southover partnership.
