A new coffee shop and tea house is to open in Palmers Green, occupying the space vacated by a previous cafe.

Businessman Ibrahim Dogus says Kiva, located in the former Coffee Culture premises in Green Lanes, will serve primarily as a hub for people to come together, share ideas and relax.

Close to local schools, Mr Dogus also expects that parents will be popular customers.

He said: "People drop their kids off to school but it's not easy for them to get to know each other well."

Mr Dogus also pointed out that coffee shops can promote community spirit.

He added: "The world is becoming a small village and in Enfield, with over 300,000 people, lots of different languages and cultures are available to every one of us."

Kiva, which takes its name from the first coffee shop said to have opened in 17th Century Istanbul, will initially be open at breakfast and lunch times, with a view to extend to an evening opening also within a few months.

In promoting jobs and enterprise, Mr Dogus has seven young people as partners for the project and acknowledged that "business has to be rooted in the community".

He said: "A lot of new communities are coming in and each community is creating something new. That's starting with small businesses reflecting this new culture in a very positive way."
