Members of a jury have called for more time to consider whether a man is guilty of raping his stepdaughter and sexually assaulting his daughter.

The suspect appeared at Wood Green Crown Court in Lordship Lane this morning charged with nine counts of rape and sexual assault in Edmonton in the 1980s.

The jury deliberated over the evidence heard during the trial for three hours today but asked for more time to reach a decision.

The man, from Enfield, cannot be named to protect the alleged victims' anonymity.

He was arrested in November 2011 following allegations from his stepdaughter, who claims she was raped and sexually abused repeatedly as soon as she hit puberty.

In the trial, which began on Monday, his daughter also testified against him for sexually abusing her once his stepdaughter left home to live with relatives.

The defendant, who remained silent as he sat in the dock this morning, denies all charges against him.

He is due to reappear at the court at 10.15am tomorrow, when the jury is expected to come to a verdict.
