News that entertainment giant HMV is set to stay in Enfield Town will be music to the ears of many music fans.

Deloitte, the administrators of the troubled chain, confirmed today that 66 loss-making stores are due to be sold in the next one to two months, putting 930 jobs at risk.

But ten people working in HMV's Church Street store look likely to keep their jobs.

Enfield Town centre manager Mark Rudling said: “This is absolutely brilliant news for Enfield Town. They have been in Enfield Town for such a long time, it is one of the most popular stores we have.

“I am absolutely delighted. It is a really traditional, popular store that people do come to Enfield Town to use.”

He said the fact that the store has been cherry-picked to stay in favour of others “really does reflect well” on the town.

But jobs are expected to be lost close to home however, as the store in Wood Green High Road has fallen victim to the company’s financial troubles.

No date is currently set for the closure of the 66 stores.

The well-known business, founded in 1921, fell into administration on January 15 – putting around 4,350 jobs at risk in its 239 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Nick Edwards, joint administrator for HMV, said: “As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

“This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a going concern."

He said the administrators continue to receive "strong support" from staff and they are extremely grateful for their commitment during an "understandably difficult" period.

He said he continues to be "hopeful" of securing a future for the restructured business.
