A pupil won a poster competition yesterday designed to banish prejudice against disability.

Tasia Joseph from Brimsdown Primary School in Green Street received an Xbox 360 for her poster of British Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmons, who won two gold medals during London 2012.

The competition, organised by Enfield Borough Council’s Hate Crime Forum, saw more than 250 primary school pupils create posters using memories from the Paralympic games.

The cabinet member for community wellbeing and public health, Councillor Christine Hamilton, said: "Tackling prejudice against different groups starts with the young and I'm delighted we are working with children to promote disabled people as inspirational role models.

"The performance of our Paralympic athletes was a remarkable testament to the dedication and hard work they put into their sports and the way they overcame their own particular disabilities made their performance in the summer even more remarkable.”

Freddie Calnan from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in The Limes Avenue in New Southgate won an MP3 player for coming second in the competition.

Eighteen runners-up also received £10 gift vouchers.
