Dancers and singers were among the acts to take to the stage at the launch of this year’s Edmonton’s Got Talent.

Thirty entrants stepped up in front of the crowds, and three judges, at the Edmonton Green Centre on Saturday hoping not to be buzzed off before they could complete their routine.

The judges on the day included singer-songwriter Louise Labelle, who was part of Band of Voices on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent; pianist and flautist Cat Brooker; and singer and mother-of-three Toni Ann Paul.

And the line up saw show-stopping performances from young singers Ellie Wright and Grady Lelo, both ten, and Eleanor Ryan 13, and an ‘animation dance’ routine from Cesar Sousa.

But it was 11-year-old singer Zelal Coskun who won the competition with an acapella version of Wind Beneath My Wings, earning her the £250 prize donated by centre owners St Modwen.

Michelle Denton, who was among the audience, said: “The kids and adults looked, sounded and came across like stars – a real treat to see everyone rise to the occasion and do the borough proud.

“It’s a very brave thing to get up and perform in front of a huge audience, but these talented individuals seemed to take it in their stride and enjoy every minute. We’re all looking forward to watching the talent continue and develop over the next three weekends and seeing more local stars on the stage.”

Edmonton Green Centre manager Roger Allen explained: “This is the first year that we have staged the show and there is no doubt this is one of our best events with the variety of talent on display. Not only do these events provide an opportunity for budding performers, they are a means of building a sense of community and bringing people together to take pride in the area.”

The event, backed by the Enfield Independent, will return with another group of contestants on Saturday, August 3, while Edmonton Green will also host open-stage nights every Thursday from August 1 to 15, starting from 4pm in the North Square.
