Gary McKinnon extradition refused by Home Secretary Theresa May

Computer hacker Gary McKinnon will not be extradited to the United States following a landmark decision by the Home Secretary.

Theresa May announced her decision at the House of Commons just after 12.30pm, ending an 11-year battle.

If the 46-year-old, from Palmers Green, had been extradited to the US, he could have faced a 60-year jail term.

Mr McKinnon, who suffers from Asperger's syndrome, is wanted by US prosecutors for hacking into sensitive Government and military databases between 2001 and 2002.
