The North London Hospice is looking for budding dancers to take to the floor for charity.

The hospice, which is based in Barrowell Green, Winchmore Hill, and Woodside Avenue, Finchley, is organising a dance contest based on the television show Strictly Come Dancing.

It is looking for couples to sign up to take part in the event which will take place at Millfield Theatre in Silver Street, Edmonton, on February 9.

Competitors will each be offered seven weeks of free, professional training before the grand finale.

The deadline to apply for Strictly Dancing, which is being supported by the Enfield Independent, is the end of October.

Gina McLaughlin, North London Hospice community fundraiser, said: "We already have ten lovely couples lined up and ready to go, and we’ve had lots of enquiries from ladies who are looking for a male partner. We are therefore urging men to come forward.

"It doesn’t matter how old you are or if you’ve never danced before in your life – the important thing is that you come along, enjoy yourself and support a fantastic cause in your community.

"It's all about giving people who have always wanted to learn to dance the opportunity to learn a new skill, as well as raising money for the hospice.”

The big night will include performances from professional dancers as well as the competitors dancing in front of judging panel and live audience.

Dancers will be required to pay a £30 entry fee and to raise at least £250 in sponsorship.

This money will be used to help the North London Hospice continue its work supporting the terminally ill in Enfield, Haringey and Barnet.

Tickets for the event are also on sale for £20 each.
