A man who stole £7,000 from a bookmakers before driving the wrong way down North Circular Road has been jailed for three-and-a-half-years.
Daniel Hennessey, 37, of Woodlands Avenue in Redbridge, pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to burglary and dangerous driving.
He broke into the Green Lanes store at approximately 3am on April 16 and worked with an accomplice to steal a safe from underneath the cashier’s tills and remove the CCTV system.
He fled the scene in a white transit van but was spotted by police in Green Lanes as he failed to turn his lights on.
As police tried to stop him, he drove the van the wrong way through North Circular Road before stopping in Harbert Road in Edmonton where he was detained.
Police discovered the safe, a sledgehammer and the CCTV system in the vehicle.
He was arrested the next day and charged with burglary and dangerous driving before he was sentenced on Tuesday, September 18.
