The Prime Minister officially opened the Sony distribution centre in Enfield today a year after it was destroyed in the riots.

David Cameron was given a tour and spoke at the newly built distribution centre, in Solar Way, which was one of the fastest ever builds of its type in the UK.

He said: “The riots last summer were a devastating for many local communities and the businesses within them.

“I was to congratulate the staff from Enfield for coping with the disruption and displacement caused by those events.

"This new distribution centre represents an investment in Enfield, and the people of Enfield.

"I'm delighted to be here to wish Sony well as they move back to their home."

After the fire last year the company moved its distribution work to Hertfordshire but committed itself to retain its workforce in Enfield and rebuild the centre.

Around 25 per cent of the UK’s DVDs, CD and Blu-rays stock was lost in the fire last year.
