Time running out for low-income families to apply for free home insulation
3:28pm Friday 7th September 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
Time is running out for low-income families to apply for free insulation for poorly insulated homes.
The Government-funded Warm Front scheme will be cut in March next year and Enfield’s Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) is warning low-income families to apply before it is too late.
Suppliers can take up to a year with administration so CAB believes is important for people to sign up as soon as possible.
Chief executive Sonia Kotecha said: “It is very important that anyone who thinks they might be eligible for the grants gets their applications in as soon as possible.
“Gas, electricity and oil are getting ever more expensive and anything you can do to reduce your bills the better.
“Provided the work doesn’t cost more than the grant available you won’t have to pay anything at all.”
Low-income families and elderly people receiving benefits can apply for grants of up to £3,500 – or £6,000 where oil central heating is recommended.
Applicants must also live in a home with poor insulation or does not have a working central heating system.
