Thousands flock to Palmers Green Festival in Broomfield Park

Thousands of people flocked to Palmers Green on Sunday to enjoy an annual festival.

More than 5,000 people visited the free Palmers Green Festival, in Broomfield Park, to take advantage of live music and entertainment.

Karl Brown, treasurer of the Friends of Broomfield Park, said: “It went brilliantly, the atmosphere was just superb.

“The only downside was the weather wasn’t great, but we only had a little bit of rain. It was fantastic.”

Mr Brown, who helped organise the festival, said it is difficult to work out how many people attended, but believes between 5,000 and 6,000 people visited.

He said organisers should have charged people £1 at the door in a bid to make a bit of extra cash for the park and community projects.

Activities included a climbing wall as well as football, tennis and rugby games.

Teenagers also made the most of a mobile youth club, known as the X Bus, and children enjoyed fun fair rides.

Half of the money raised through donations will be invested within Broomfield Park, and the rest will be used to fund community projects in Enfield.

The event was originally planned for June 24, but was cancelled a fortnight ahead of the event.

Organisers feared the waterlogged grounds of Broomfield Park, which are grade two listed, could become damaged when vehicles loaded stalls and entertainment.
