Runners urged to join Polio 5km run through Albany Park

Runners are urged to take part in a charity fun run in Albany Park this month.

The course in the park in Hertford Road on Monday, August 27, will raise money to buy packs to protect Nigerian children from Polio.

The packs include mosquito nets, exercise books, pens and sponges and will be distributed to under five-year-olds with the highly infectious disease.

Polio, which affects the nervous system, can result in paralysis and is transmitted through contaminated food, drinking water, faeces and swimming pool water.

The sponsored run is organised by Christ Ambassadors, a group of Enfield-based volunteers dedicated to offering mentoring services and evangelism training to young people in the community.

Sponsors for the run include Enfield Island Village Trust, Polio Free Nigeria Team, UNICEF, Rotary in Northern Nigeria and WHO.

Participants in the 5K Run for Polio can run, jog, or walk around the track. Registration to the event, which starts at 10.30am, costs £15 and includes a free t-shirt. To sign up, click here .
