Opening ceremony nurses bring Olympic spirit to Southgate Beaumont care home

Elderly people living in a Southgate care home were visited on Tuesday by three performers from the Olympic opening ceremony.

Three nurses, who work at North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton, shared their special Olympic experience with residents from Southgate Beaumont care home in Cannon Hill.

The nurses, Kim Brown, Katja Chessis and Beverly Johnson, arrived in their uniforms worn in the opening ceremony on Friday, July 27.

They explained how they had to spend 200 gruelling unpaid hours rehearsing for the event and showed residents their Oympic programme and security badges.

The volunteers were involved in the NHS section of the ceremony and had to learn to tough dance regimes while spinning hospital beds.

Samantha Neal, home service advisor at Southgate Beaumont, said: “It went really well – the residents thought it was great, it brought the whole thing alive for them.

“They were all really impressed that they were local nurses and thought what lovely women they were. Some of them were saying it was the best thing that has happened here.”
