Dramatic rescue as man falls from bridge onto busy road
11:38am Wednesday 8th August 2012 in News By Hermione Wright
A dramatic rescue mission is underway after a man has fallen from a bridge onto a busy road.
Police were called to the 14-foot Woodford Bridge on Chigwell Road, Walthamforest, just before 10.45am.
The A406 is closed westbound from the Charlie Brown roundabout on A503 while police and the London Ambulance Service deal with the situation, and delays are likely on North Circular Road on the way to Edmonton via Angel Road.
An air ambulance is at the scene to help the man, who is in his 50s. He is in a critical condition, but is breathing.
An anonymous witness, who was driving to Enfield, saw a man lying in the middle of the busy road.
Cars were forced to dodge the man, who looked as if he was breathing.
He said approximately 20 people had gathered on Woodford Bridge, many of whom were crying. Six police cars were arriving just as he drove past at 10.45am.
