Anti-knife crime workshop at St John and St James Primary School in Edmonton

Pupils at an Edmonton primary school spent a morning being warned of the dangers of knife crime by a community group.

Children at St John and St James Primary School in Grove Street heard from the Young Soldiers group, which usually works with secondary schools in the borough affected by knife crime, on Wednesday morning.

Pastor Pat Agdomar, who leads the group, said: “It was very good and the purpose of this project is to get these kids young and show them the terror of knife crime.

“We need to get the message into these kids’ minds to value life and carry a sense of responsibility –and that carrying a knife is wrong.”

The group spent the morning highlighting the dangers of getting involved in gangs through dance and drama.

The Young Soldiers group organised a concert at the Tramways Christian Fellowship Centre, off Hertford Road, last year to urge young people to shun a life of crime after Negus was killed.

The pastor, who has worked as a minister with the Edmonton-based Glory of the Cross for more than 30 years, also held a peace march, attended by all the borough’s MPs and hundreds of youngsters, through Edmonton in April to commemorate the lives of other youngsters killed in Enfield.
