A man is in hospital after reportedly being sprayed in the face with acid outside a bank in Enfield Highway this morning.
The victim, a businessman in his 50s, was about to deposit cash at the NatWest branch in Hertford Road at approximately 9.45am when a mugger ran up and sprayed an aerosol can in his face.
He also punched another man in the head, who managed to escape into the branch with the cash, leaving the mugger to run off empty-handed.
But the man who was sprayed with an aerosol has suffered blisters to his hands and face and is receiving treatment at Chase Farm Hospital. Officers cannot confirm he was sprayed with acid.
The area has been sealed off by police wearing gas masks who have been testing a substance on the floor outside the bank, which has been closed for the day.
