Police say they have identified five people linked to anti-social behaviour that traders and homeowners say is blighting an Enfield street.

Shopkeepers in Baker Street and people living nearby told say that boys living in flats above shops have regularly threatened locals, smashed windows and set fire to bins for four years.

But Enfield Police said that it had arrested one youth after taking statements from victims and holding meetings with families of the troublemakers, police and council officers.

It added: “Enfield Police have responded to several incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Baker Street area. Five individuals have been identified as responsible and firm action taken.

“This action includes anti-social behaviour contracts issued to two youths, warning letters to parents and one youth arrested and cautioned last week for arson.

“Our aim, by working together, is to reduce further incidents and achieve positive outcomes for those involved.

“No reports of anti-social behaviour in the area have been received recently but the team continue to monitor the situation.”

The Enfield Independent heard reports of the group hurling racist abuse at shopkeepers, breaking into cars, dealing drugs and even using a homemade flame thrower. Many people were too frightened to be named for fear of reprisals.
