A smuggled cigarette dealer from Palmers Green has been jailed after being caught with more than 100kg of tobacco.

Adil Hassan Hussain, 33, of Cherry Blossom Close, was arrested by police in October last year when he was stopped on the M6 motorway in Cheshire and found to have bin bags full of tobacco and cigarettes.

The haul, which equated to £16,600 in evaded excise duty, included 51kg of Amber Leaf tobacco, 42kg of Golden Virginia and 12,000 L&M Blue cigarettes from Belgium, which Hussain admitted to transporting across the UK.

At Chester Crown Court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to two charges of being knowingly concerned in dealing with goods with intent to defraud Her Majesty of any duty payable, and was jailed for five months. He was also banned from driving for three years.

Jailed for 5 months so released after 2! That is certainly sending out the message that crime won't be tolerated.
PS. That is sarcasm!

Its not a release after 2 - thats less than half the sentence and the half sentence is a myth. Plus what kind of threat is he to someone on the street. Confiscate his earnings from the activity and give him 300 hrs community service, don't lock him up at my expense, he's evading tax ! £16K - peanuts. Spend the money locking up the big tax evaders.
