Auction to raise cash for 'essential' St John's Roof repairs in Enfield
10:30am Wednesday 20th June 2012 in News By Sarah O'Brien
An Enfield church is hosting an auction to raise money for “essential repairs” to its roof this weekend.
The fundraising event will be hosted by Enfield North MP Nick de Bois to raise £150,000 for St. John’s Church in Clay Hill.
Nick said: "I'm delighted to be conducting the auction in aid of such a historic and well-loved building.
“Every pound raised will go towards repairing the church roof, and it promises to be a fun afternoon, so I hope lots of people will attend."
The building, which was first opened in 1858, has already undergone significant restoration to its foundations and its interior.
Local councillor Tom Waterhouse said: "St. John's is a beautiful church at the heart of the community in Clay Hill. Although £150,000 is a tall order, we'll get there eventually.”
The auction will take place at the Fallow Buck pub in Enfield at 1pm on Sunday 24 June. There are numerous prizes, including a tour of House of Commons and meal vouchers for restaurants.
