Enfield Festival ignores north east of the borough, says MP

An Enfield MP has condemned Enfield Council for ignoring parts of the borough in the Enfield Festival.

Nick de Bois, MP for Enfield north, has questioned why there are only three out of 67 events in the north east of the town during the entire four-month festival period.

He said: “I welcome the positive benefits for the Enfield economy from the events around the Enfield Festival, but I want to see those benefits extended to the north east of the borough.

“Residents and business owners will be asking why is the council doing nothing for them?"

The festival features events taking place in separate locations throughout Enfield, and the entertainment catalogue includes storytelling sessions, arts and crafts exhibitions and live concerts.

The MP believes people and businesses in Enfield Lock, Freezywater and Enfield Highway are particularly missing out, with most of the events taking place in Edmonton, Forty Hall and Enfield Town.

A leaflet published by Enfield Council states: “The Enfield Festival celebrates Enfield – its people and the place. Our rich sporting and cultural offer is unique and we invite visitors to come and celebrate with us.”

Shops and businesses are expected to notice a welcome boost thanks to people enjoying the festival.

However, Mr de Bois fears businesses in Hertford Road, Green Street and Ordnance Road will miss out on much-needed customers as most of the events are being held elsewhere.

I wonder why they would not use the Council did not use the library opposite the co-op for any of this?

As they are going to close most of it, so they can rent it out to hold doctor and dentist surgeries, I think I can guess....
