Couple toast 25th anniversary on Middleton's Jubilee boat
A married couple will toast their 25th anniversary on the same boat used to carry the Middleton family during the Jubilee flotilla.
Peter and Suzanne Simpkin, who live in Green Lanes in Enfield, are celebrating their special day with friends and family on a river cruiser called The Elizabethan.
The boat is already well-known to the couple, as it was the venue of their wedding reception 25 years before.
The Elizabethan, which has been refurbished since the couple’s original voyage, is expected to float directly next to the boat carrying the Queen on Sunday.
Mrs Simpkin, who will be watching the flotilla on Sunday with her husband, works for children’s charity Action for Kids, based in Hornsey.
The couple's tour of the Thames, which will set sail on June 7, is a triple celebration as it will also mark Mrs Simpkin’s 60th birthday and Mr Simpkin’s 70th.
Nearly all of the couple's original wedding guests have been invited back to spend the evening on the boat.
Mr Simpkin, who is a photographer, said: “The guests were very pleased, if a little surprised, to hear they will be coming back.
“People still talk about it because it was quite unusual.
"I’m a bit worried we might lose a few quests because the Thames is quite a bit busier than it was 25 years ago and we only have a 15 minute slot to get everybody on.”
