Five gang suspects arrested in dawn raids after riots

Five gang suspects were arrested this morning in a series of undercover dawn raids to tackle rioters.

The suspects, all teenagers, are believed to have played a part in the early outbreak of the disorder on August 6 and 7 last year.

Officers carried out two early morning raids in 11 addresses in Haringey, Enfield, Walthamstow and Hackney.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in Tottenham on suspicion of violent disorder and robbery, and a second man, 19, was arrested in connection with violent disorder and burglary.

A 19-year-old woman, not believed to be a gang member, was also arrested in Tottenham on suspicion of violent disorder and burglary.

A third gang suspect, 17, was arrested in Palmers Green in connection with violent disorder.

A youth, 17, from Waltham Forest was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, as well as a 17-year-old from Stoke Newington who was arrested for the same offence as well as suspected burglary.

DCI Ian Elliott, of Operation Withern, which was set up to investigate the riots, said: "Nearly 10 months on the viewing of the CCTV is nearly complete and from this footage we are still identifying, arresting and bringing to justice large numbers of offenders. These arrests demonstrate our work is far from done.

"We would like to thank the public for their continued assistance which has been key in bringing those individuals involved to justice."
