A woman was rescued from a flat in Upper Edmonton early this morning after a fire trapped her in the building.

Firefighters entered the first floor maisonette in Jeremy’s Green to rescue the woman after the blaze at just after 3am this morning.

Paramedics treated her at the scene for smoke inhalation, but it took more than 20 firefighters one and a half hours to bring the fire under control.

Watch manager Dave Girt, from Edmonton Fire Station in Church Street, said: “The crews did a fantastic job and were working really hard, trying to make their way into the smoke-logged flat.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
