Record £4.1m counterfeit coins seized in Enfield raid
A record £4.1million of counterfeit coins has been seized in a police operation which included a raid on an Enfield house.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police seized the haul, which they think is the largest amount ever recovered, in raids on homes and vehicles in Enfield, Hertfordshire and Essex yesterday.
£4million of blank coins were discovered in a 40ft freight container, while another £107,000 was found in other locations.
Three men, aged 52, 43 and 27, have been arrested in connection with the investigation and are being held at a north London police station.
Detective Inspector Bruce South labelled the seizure a “significant blow” to the black market industry.
