Students and staff in Edmonton raised nearly £1,000 for charity with an event to mark International Women’s Day yesterday.

The event at Barnet and Southgate College’s Edmonton Green Shopping Centre campus involved a raffle, cake competition, beauty treatments and food stalls to raise cash for Breast Cancer Care.

Mayor of Enfield Christiana During gave a speech to students at the college’s centre for English for Speakers of Other Langauges.

College principal David Byrne said: “International Women’s Day helps empower women across the world and the college were proud to be part of the celebrations.

“It was a great opportunity for students and staff from a number of departments to come together with the local community and we thank the Mayor of Enfield for supporting the college by taking time out of her busy schedule to attend and join in with the festivities.”
