A new choir for people of all ages and musical abilities will open in Enfield later this month.

Simon Gilbert, a former West End singer, is launching the choir, called Let the People Sing, following the success of similar projects including Gareth Malone’s Military Wives.

He said: “Choirs are definitely becoming a big thing and getting more popular with all age groups, but we have really started capturing the older age group.

“It is communal and about community, and it is coming from the right place. I have a position for everyone.

“People can come and let off steam, drop whatever else they are doing and come together to sing.”

Mr Gilbert, who has run singing master classes and workshops in Enfield for more than thirty years, said most of his members are 40-50 years old but he is looking for people of all age groups to take part.

He said there is no need for members to audition or to be able to read music in order to take part.

The choir starts on Tuesday February 21 at 7.15pm at the Millfield Arts Centre, Silver Street, Edmonton, N18 1PJ. Sessions are £5 each with the first two sessions paid in advance.
