Firms attending a jobs fair organised by a politician next month have confirmed there will be at least 250 positions on offer.

The Enfield Jobs Fair, which aims to get the borough’s unemployed back into work, will be held on February 10 at the Southbury Leisure Centre in Southbury Road, with companies such as BT, Tesco, Virgin Media and Sainsbury’s already confirmed to attend.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson will open the event, which follows a similar event in January last year when around 1,200 people turned out to meet local firms including Rimex Metals and Johnson Matthey for information about jobs.

Enfield North MP Nick de Bois, who has organised the event, said: “The figures showed that in December 2011 the local job centres in Enfield had 1,185 vacancies on offer.

“We have 250 confirmed job offers available through the Enfield Jobs Fair and we will be in a position to announce more in the coming weeks.”

Figures released last week showed that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance had risen again to 3,603 in December, with 10,721 looking for work across the borough.

The fair will run from 10am to 3pm on February 10 and is free to attend.
