ENFIELD Council looks set to challenge the Government over its planned changes to Parliamentary boundary.

The authority, if it votes this evening to oppose the changes, will join growing opposition to reform of the boundaries to make MPs represent roughly the same amount of people.

In Enfield, this will mean five MPs represent the borough rather than three, with Andy Love's Edmonton constituency carved up and the remains attached to a new constituency with Chingford.

Mr Love last week launched a campaign against the changes, which he says do not make sense particularly for Edmonton.

Councillors are receiving a report this evening which sets out a series of representations to the Boundary Commission consultationn over the changes.

If approved, the council will say “the initial proposals are not in the best interests of the people of Enfield and its surrounding area, and should therefore be reconsidered”.

The report will be voted on tonight at Full Council, due to start at 7pm at the civic centre in Silver Street.
