THE CAMPAIGN to save the constituency seat of Edmonton has picked up pace.

Since its launch by MP Andy Love last week, the campaign’s petition has received hundreds of signatures.

The plan is to stop boundary changes which would see Edmonton merge with Chingford as part of plans to redraw the electoral map and equal the number of voters in each area.

Local people have until December 5 to submit their views to the Boundary Commission about the proposed merger.

“Time is very much against us,” said Mr Love.

“We have less than one month left to make our opinions known, otherwise Edmonton’s sense of community is seriously under threat.”

Mr Love has pointed out that there is no link between the two constituencies by bus, train and there only one road connecting the two areas.

He argues it would be impossible to create a sense of community in “Chingford and Edmonton”.

He believes local people will not be represented properly, as one MP would have to divide their time to cover two very different areas.
