HORRIFIED neighbours tried to help a young man after he was fatally stabbed in the middle of a residential street in Edmonton.

Steven Grisales was found screaming for help in College Close after he was stabbed in the chest on Wednesday evening.

Mary Stokes, 27, was one of the residents who rushed outside to try to help the 21-year-old.

She said: “I was in the house and heard shouting, as I walked out I was holding his chest. “I tried to speak to him but he wasn't saying much, just holding his chest.

We tried to help him but there was not much we could do, he had been stabbed in the heart.”

Mr Grisales, 21, was apparently stabbed after a fight in the street with three young black men, at around 7pm as he walked towards Silver Street station.

Another College Close neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I heard screaming and ran outside to see what was going on.

“He was calling for someone to call the police. I was shocked at what I saw, literally all the neighbours had come outside when it happened.”

Sledge Blankson, 13, said his sister called for emergency services when they saw what had happened. He said: “The guy was slumped on the floor - bleeding. Blood was just pouring down from his chest.”

Mr Grisales was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but lost his battle to survive on Thursday evening.

Police investigating say they believe he was attacked by three black youths, and have appealed for anyone with further information to come forward.

A 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested in connection with the murder and have been released on bail until next month.
