CLOSING arguments are due to begin today in the trial of three men accused of murdering an Enfield teenager.

Daniel Riley, Matthew Lanihun, and Koffi Osimeh, all deny stabbing to death 17-year-old Godwin Lawson in Hackney last year.

A jury at the Old Bailey has heard how Godwin, a promising footballer at the Oxford United Football and Education Academy, was attacked while out with two of his friends.

He was walking home with brothers Julian and Daniel Borja at 1.50am on March 27 last year when they were set upon.

Julian Borja, 20, was stabbed in the stomach and the back. His brother, 18, suffered wounds to his back, elbow, side and buttock. Despite their injuries they survived, jurors were told.

However, Godwin was not so lucky, suffering a single stab wound to the chest and dying moments later on the pavement.

Prosecutors say Mr Riley, 22, of Caledonian Road, Holloway, Mr Lanihun, 21, of Megan Court, Holloway and Mr Osimeh, 20, of Heron Drive, Finsbury Park are responsible for murder and two counts of wounding with intent.

The trio all deny the charges against them.

Prosecution and defence barristers are expected to begin closing speeches this morning, and once the judge has summed up the case the jury will be sent out to consider a verdict.
