A REVAMPED library in the heart of Enfield Town has been nominated for a prestigious design award.
Enfield Town Library was reopened in March this year after a £5m overhaul, cleaning up the original Edwardian building, adding modern features including a new roof, and a new glass and steel facade to look over the green.
Former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion unveiled the refreshed building after 18 months of work on it, and the library has now been shortlisted for Best Built Project at this year's London Planning Awards.
The awards, now in their eight year, showcase the best examples of public sector and private developments and encourage planners to aim for high-quality buildings and public spaces across the capital.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: "In addition to extremely high design standards, a commitment to improve the quality of life in London also shines out from this year's shortlist.
“I am particularly pleased to see the emphasis placed on improving our green and open public spaces, which are vital to my vision for London to become the world's best big city."
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on January 20 at City Hall.
