A RAPIST who attacked a woman at her Edmonton home has been jailed for eight years.

Michael Chukwudi Anigbugu, 34, was sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, October 29, after being convicted of two counts of rape and two offences of sexual assault.

Anigbugu broke into the 37-year old woman's home in Edmonton, on October 10, 2009, between 2am and 3am.

He was identified by a single hair he had left on the victim's dressing gown.

He was arrested on March 12 and charged with the attack.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Daniel Smith, of the Met's Sapphire Unit, said: "This type of attack is rare. Anigbugu was successfully convicted thanks to the victim's courage, the good work of forensic scientists and the dedication and skill of the officers involved in the investigation.

"I would like to pay tribute to the victim who despite suffering such a terrible ordeal has demonstrated remarkable courage. I hope she is able to find some comfort knowing she has assisted in taking a dangerous individual off our streets."
