A MAN who helps run an Edmonton social club frequented by young people has been fined after installing a gambling machine.
Azizi Kaygisiz, secretary of Silver Street Social Football Club, in Silver Street, was fined £500 after pleading guilty to allowing the prize-giving fruit machine on the premises.
Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, said: "Only clubs which sell alcohol or pubs are allowed to have prize-giving fruit machines as it’s an adult setting. We will not tolerate children being exposed to the temptations of gambling."
Machines became illegal in non-gaming premises under the Gambling Act 2005, which came into effect on September 1, 2007, to protect children from potential harm.
Mr Kaygsiz was warned seven times between July 30 and December 3 last year to remove the machine but failed to do so.
He was ordered to pay a £500 fine and £500 costs.
