THE Edwardian North Middlesex Hospital marked its 100th birthday last weekend by celebrating new births.

Mothers whose babies share the same birthday as the hospital were given certificates by head of midwifery Fiona Laird.

Parts of the hospital, including the nurses block, date back to July 25 1910.

The hospital's history has been charted in a display at the main entrance, while in August a photography exhibition will be held in the corridor linking maternity and the hospital building opened this year.

Ms Laird said: “I am delighted to have been able to celebrate the hospital’s birthday with mothers and babies who are experiencing a very important landmark of their own.

“I became head of midwifery earlier this year and have developed a top team of midwives – along with more financial investment - to guarantee that mothers experiencing care at the North Mid have a positive and happy experience."
