Over 30 arrested in massive crime clampdown

OVER thirty people were arrested in a two-week operation designed to reduce robbery, burglary and drugs offences in Enfield.

A total of 34 arrests were made as part of Operation Nesta, which ran from January 25 to last Sunday, February 7 and was designed to tackle a range of offences from burglary and robbery to drug dealing.

Police said two wanted suspects were arrested as part of the operation, which involved squads including Enfield Burglary and Robbery Squad, the Territorial Support Group, a strategic reserve group, traffic officers and the dog unit.

The officers targeted known burglary hotspots and prolific burglars.

On February 4 Haselbury Safer Neighbourhoods Team targeted a group believed to be involved in the supply of drugs and handling of stolen goods from residential burglaries. They arrested a 19-year-old man.

And on February 5 officers raided an address at Cross Keys Close, Edmonton, and seized class A drugs and arrested two women aged 55 and 25.

The pair have been bailed until March 18 pending further enquiries. A 35 year old man was also arrested for immigration offences.

The operation also focused on targeting young people involved in violent, or weapon-enabled crime.

Superintendent Lucy D’Orsi, in charge of operations in Enfield said: "Burglary and serious youth violence continues to remain a priority for police and partner agencies and Operation Nesta is an excellent example of joint working.

"We will continue to proactively bring offenders to justice, with the use of tactics including high visibility patrols and screening arch operations, whilst reminding home owners they can help police reduce the number of burglaries by properly securing their premises by installing simple security measures such as locks and alarms."
